so this season's Top Chef winner was Hosea. i didn't expect him to win -- i was hoping for carla, but glad it wasn't stefan.

during the season, there were times when i thought hosea was really cute, and times when i really didn't. a few weeks ago, i was watching an episode, and i realized why... as i told a friend in australia who watches the show, "half of his face is cute, and half of it isn't."

in looking at hosea's face, i realized it was quite assymetrical. i've posted about face symmetry before, and the idea of the character of the left side of one's face vs the right side -- somewhere in my journal is a post where i took a pic of my face and made a version that combined two right sides of my face and another that combined two left sides, with interesting results.

(that's actually the reason i started exploring the tag feature, as mentioned in my last post -- i was wishing there was a good way to go back and find that entry.)

yesterday i saw a pic of hosea that i thought really highlighted the assymetry, so i did the same with his picture. admittedly, the lighting and the angle serve to overemphasize the difference a bit, but i think the pics do show an interesting contrast:

the many faces of hosea behind the cut... )

(it's animated, so if you don't see anything happening right away, wait a sec)
